Andy Margetts read physics at Oxford University, graduating with honours in 1985. He trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. in London, where he focused on financial institutions. He joined Charterhouse Bank Limited in 1989 where he gained experience in all aspects of corporate finance, ranging from public company flotations and takeovers, capital raising and domestic and cross border M&A. He was appointed to the Board of Charterhouse Bank in 1997, led the food sector team and additionally focused on building products companies. Charterhouse was acquired by HSBC in 2000 and Andy then operated as a Director in its Corporate Finance & Advisory business before resigning in 2001 in order to launch Amethyst as an independent advisory house.

Marcus Shapiro read law at the University of Leeds, graduating with honours in 1984. He graduated from the College of Law in 1985 and subsequently trained and qualified as a solicitor with McKenna & Co. in London. After practising as a solicitor specialising in corporate and financial services law, he joined Charterhouse Bank Limited in 1989 where he gained experience in all aspects of corporate finance, ranging from public company flotations and takeovers, capital raising and domestic and cross border M&A. Marcus was seconded in 1995 to the New York office of Charterhouse where he served for three years as Vice President, specialising in cross border M&A deals. On his return to the UK as a Director in 1998, he led Charterhouse’s healthcare and chemicals practice in the UK. At HSBC Investment Bank from 2000, following its acquisition of Charterhouse, he operated as a Director in the Technology Group within HSBC’s Corporate Finance & Advisory Division. He resigned from HSBC in 2001 in order to launch Amethyst as an independent advisory house.

Simon Beavis graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2002 with a first class honours degree in Financial & Business Economics. Upon graduation, Simon joined Citigroup to work as an analyst in the FX Options product control team and, after working at Citigroup for more than a year and a half, joined Amethyst in March 2004. Simon’s prior corporate finance experience includes an internship in the Financial Institutions Group at Lazard.

Tim Lebus has acted as Senior Advisor to Amethyst since January 2004. A seasoned and highly-regarded City figure, Tim’s career has included time at Deutsche Bank, Bankers Trust and Salomon Brothers. He has also acted as a corporate lawyer in New York and holds a degree in law from Magdalene College, Cambridge. Tim is currently a Partner at the private equity house, Duke Street Capital, where he is responsible for their UK team.
